safety and sustainability

The AECI Group, as a matter of policy, is committed to a clean, safe and healthy environment for its employees, contractors, customers and surrounding communities.

To fulfil this policy commitment, a set of Safety, Health and Environmental (“SHE”) Standards has been agreed to and approved by the Chief Executive. The Social and Ethics Committee oversees these matters and reports back to the full Board. The Standards, as stated below, are designed for implementation in AECI’s federal structure. The Chief Executive holds the Managing Director of each AECI business accountable for ensuring that implementation is effected appropriately in the business he or she manages.

Our Goal is zero harm

Our Zero Harm integrated approach to the management of Occupational Safety, Process Safety, Occupational Health, the Environment, Product Transportation, Responsible Care® and Quality is based on the fundamentals of Accountable Leadership; Engaged and Empowered Employees; Risk-based SHEQ Management; and Continuous Improvement.

The approach is detailed in the AECI SHEQ Framework which is implemented and embedded by the management of every Group business to enable the journey towards Zero Harm.

OUR COMMITMENT TO GOING GREEN

The principles of sustainable development underpin AECI’s SED programmes and drive practices and decision making. Sustainable development addresses the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It also implies long-term commitment, with input from diverse stakeholders. Successful sustainability initiatives balance the economic, environmental and social development needs and aspirations of the community in question.

AECI has incorporated the United Nations’ 17 social development goals (SDGs) in its practices and processes. This allows us to measure and report our impact on a much broader international scale.

The SED programmes are currently aligned with and contribute towards the achievement of six of the SDGs as indicated below. These goals are related directly to people’s human rights in terms of equal access to basic resources such as food and water, income, healthcare and education. It would be very difficult to achieve the best possible impact without embracing SDG No. 17 – partnering with the best.
